  • The elements of multimedia is the following; text, images, audio, video, and animation.
  • Text is the the fundamental element of multimedia. It is made up of words or phrases to communicate an idea
  • Image is any two or three dimensional illustrations. It is a powerful way to represent an idea and information.

    • photographs
  • Images that are made using an application or web platform are called graphics or graphic images. It is classified into two kinds.
  • Raster (bitmap) image uses pixels to represent an image
  • Vector image are composed of lines defined by mathematical formulas. It can be zoomed in without losing clarity.
  • Audio are sounds recorded through digital or analog means. It comes in various forms such as voice recordings, music, and sound effects.
  • Analog Audio are sounds recorded using a microphone and stored into tape or vinyl.
  • Digital Audio are sounds recorded by taking samples of audio.
  • MP3 (Moving Picture Experts Group Layer-3) are compressed and light format for audio files like music
  • WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) are originally developed for PC users typically used for raw and uncompressed audio
  • AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) are similar to WAV but this format was developed for Apple computers
  • Animation is a sequence of images that gives an illusion of
    movement or motion.
  • Video is the recording and processing of moving pictures and sound.
  • Mp4 (Moving Picture Experts Group Layer-4) are common format for videos published on the web.
  • AVI (Audio Video Interleave) are a lossless format which will retain its quality after multiple saves but has a big file size.
  • WMV (Windows Media Video) are commonly used in Windows
    that has a better compression than MP4 making it smaller in file size.
  • Music-on-demand (MoD) refers to service systems that allows various platforms to stream digital music online.

  • Video-on-demand (VoD) refers to services that allows various platforms to publish and stream videos online.
