    • pick explicit, simple points and don't try to infer
    • use the wording of the question to stay on topic
    • draw a box around the section of the text that you are directed to
  • question 2 (8 marks)
    • be precise on the effect, avoid being vague and generalised
    • write two paragraphs
    • you could but don't have to include all bullet points
    • focus on individual words or short quotations
  • question 3 (8 marks)
    • focus on specific effect
    • analysis of writer's use of structure (how the text is organised)
    • not on what is happening, but where it is happening
    • eg change in focus or perspective, cyclical structure, flashbacks/flashforwards, repetitions, foreshadowing
    • write two paragraphs
  • question 4 (20 marks)
    • write four paragraphs (introduction, 3 paragraphs and conclusion)
    • always agree with statement
    • analyse language and structure
  • question 5 (40 marks)
    • could be narrative or descriptive
    • 2 questions to choose from - one based on a picture, one not based on a picture
    • use the techniques that writers use in section A
    • include structural and language features
    • ensure technical accuracy
    • use a range of punctuation, paragraph and sentence lengths
    • include skills in plan beforehand to tick off
    • spend 5 minutes planning
