Opposition

• Many nobles, ministers and future Alexander III, felt that the reforms had gone too far, destroying the old order, allowing an influx of Western ideas and persuaded Alex to replace liberal ministers with conservatives
• January Uprising (1863) - Polish upset that they weren't emancipated
• Alexander II was assassinated 1881 by the 'People's Will' group
