  • A Motherboard contains a CPU, Heatsink, RAM, hard drive
  • CPU (central processing unit) is the brain of a computer and carries out commands
  • The CPU is covered by the heatsink which draws heat away from the processer
  • RAM (Random access memory) only contains short term memory. It can't store files as they are cleared when you turn off the computer
  • Hard drives hold long-term storage and Solid state drives are faster and more durable but more expensive
  • Expansion slots are used to add additional components to a computer.
  • Expansions slots:
    Video card => better graphics
    Wireless card => connect to wireless home network
  • Power supply unit => connects with a plug and a socket
