Cyber threats

• Social engineering - the act of manipulating humans so that they give up private information or their money
• Phishing - trying to obtain private information by faking an email or messages from a trusted source
• Malware - malicious software
• What are the three types of malware?

  -Virus

  -Trojan

  -Spyware
• A virus inserts itself into other computer programs and when the program is run, the virus replicates
• A trojan pretends to do one legitimate task but secretly acts maliciously in the background
• Spyware collects information about you without your knowledge
• Hacking - accessing computer systems as an unauthorised user
• Hacking requires technical and psychological skills and not all cyber attacks include hacking
• Hacking can result in data theft (data s extracted and stolen)
• Interception is when data is stolen when moving through networks
• Interception can also involve eavesdropping
