• Tet offensive

  31st January, 1968: surprise attack by the Vietcong during New Years. They launched a series of attacks all in unison in the south, this caught the Americans off guard, and they almost lost the war. They eventually managed to regain control but many people died.
• My Lai Massacre

  16th March 1968: Search and destroy operation - the US attacked a local village in search of Vietcong. 347 innocent men, women and children were killed. Many women were raped. LT Calley who was in charge was sentenced to 20 years hard labour, but only ended up serving 3. These events shocked the American public
