Newton's First Law

• What is Newtons first law?

  An object will remain in the same state of motion unless acted on by an external force
• What happens when the resultant force acting on an object is zero?

  If the object is stationary it remains stationary .And if the object is moving it continues to move at the same speed and in the same direction (constant velocity)
• What is Inertia?

  The tendency for objects to continue in the same state of motion
• When will the velocity of an object change?

  When there is a resultant force acting on it
• For a car that is travelling at a steady speed, what will the driving force be balance by?

  The resistive forces (e.g. friction with the air or road)
