Multipolar neuron: many processes in reception area (noted by multiple dendrites off of cell body); usually highly myelinated
Bipolar neurons: only have a few processes (likely going opposite directions from cell body); usually unmyelinated
Unipolar neuron: 1 process with cell body located between the axon terminal and the “trigger zone” where the dendrites are, so conduction only goes one direction; usually myelinated
The 3 functional classes of neurons are sensory (afferent) neurons, interneurons, and motor (efferent) neurons.
