• The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology referred toes Jail Bureau
• Created initially consisting of officers and uniformed members of the Jail Management and Penology Service as constituted under Presidential Degree No. 765.
• The provincial jail is supervised and controlled by the provincial government within its jurisdiction, whose expenses shall be subsidized by the National Government for not more than three years after the effectively of RA6975.
• The Jail Bureau is headed by the chief who is assisted by two (2) deputy chiefs, one (1) for administration and one (1) for operations, all of whom were appointed by the President based on the recommendation of the secretary of the DILG from among the qualified officers with at least the rank of senior superintendent in the service.
• The Jail Bureau is composed of city and municipal jail, each headed by a city and municipal jail warden.
• Jail officers I to senior officer IV-appointed by the Regional Director for the uniformed personnel in his Area of Responsibility (AOR) or by the Chief, BJMP for national headquarters and attested by Civil Service Commission.

• Graduates of the PNPA shall be automatically appointed to the initial rank of Jail Inspector.
• Doctors of Medicine, members of the Philippine Bar and Chaplains shall be appointed to the rank of Jail Senior Inspector in their particular technical service.
• Lateral Entry from the Outside - any qualified individual who possesses highly specialized and technical qualifications needed by the BJMP and who meets the minimum qualification standards for lateral entry may be appointed as Inspector or Senior Inspector, as the case may be,
• Lateral Entry from Within any qualified uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the BJMP who possesses highly specialized and technical qualifications needed by the BJMP for lateral entry may be appointment as Inspector or Senior Inspector, as the case may be.
• Municipal Jail Warden - should have the rank of Senior Inspector.
• City Jail Warden - should have the rank of Chief Inspector.
• District Jail Warded/Provincial Jail Administration-should have the rank of superintendent.

• (BJMP)Regional Director and Director of the Directorates of the National Headquarters Office-should have the rank of superintendent
• Deputy Chief for Administration, Deputy Chief for Operations and Chief of the Director Staff - should have the rank of Chief Superintendent.
• Chief, BJMP-should have the rank of director.
• Municipal Fire Marshall should have the rank of Senior Inspector.
• City Fire Marshall - should have the rank of Chief Inspector.
• Provincial Fire Marshall and District Fire Marshall, National Capital Region - should have the rank of Superintendent.
• (BFP)Assistant Regional Director for Administration and for Operation and the Regional Chief of Directorial Staff -- should have the rank of at least Superintendent.
• Regional Director and Director of the Directorate of the National Office - should have the rank of Senior Superintendent.
• Deputy Chief for Administration, Deputy Chief for Operations and Chief of the Directorial Staff - should have the rank of Chief Superintendent.
• Chief, BFP-should have the rank of Director.
• Provided, that a waiver for height and age requirements shall be automatically granted to applicants belonging to the cultural communities; REPUBLIC ACT NO. 11549 on May 26, 2021
• No retired or resigned military officer or police official may be appointed as Secretary within one (1) year
