Water and Carbon cycles

Cards (10)

  • The processes of the water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, run off/collection, transpiration
  • Evaporation: suns heat causes water to evaporate from oceans, animals and plants (transpiration)
  • condensation: water cools and condenses, droplets forming clouds
  • Precipitation is rain, sleet, snow
  • Run off: water collects in rivers and streams, flowing back into ocean
  • Infiltration: rain soaks through soil and rock forming ground water (wells)
  • Combustion: when we burn fossil fuels containing carbon, we release carbon into the atmosphere
  • Carbon sink/reservoir: a natural place that’s stores carbon (forest)
  • Roots, stems, leaves store carbon
  • Carbon source: where carbon is giving off or released in great quantities (eg volcano erupting)
