Conclusions

• visual aids - false Belief tasks are not measuring Tom as intended but other cognitive abilities like language and memory so they lack internal validity
• Astington - theory of mind is initially seen in others through our interactions with adukrs and oerrs and is eventually internalised and then demonstrated
• Liu - suppourts universality of Tom as both cultures achieved it but raises questions about research by BC as it’s shows they underestimated the role of culture in development of TOM
• Not all people with ASD - if There are individuals with ASD who have intact theory of mind whilst still having problems in social cognition this suggests we may have misunderstood the role of Tom within SC
