Laws of Motion

Cards (6)

  • Speed
    • is how fast an object is moving
    • The work out the speed of an object you need to know how far an object has traveled, and how long it has taken to travel the distance
  • Newton’s laws of motion
    • a set of fundamental laws that describe the relationship between an objects motion, and the forces acting upon it
  • Newton’s first law
    • the law of inertia
    • States that an object at rest will remain at rest and object in motion will continue in motion. Unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
  • Types of friction
    • sliding friction
    • Rolling friction
    • fluid friction (air/liquid)
    • Static fiction
  • Newton’s second law
    • the law of acceleration
    • States that an acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on the object
    • and inversely proportional to its mass
  • Newton’s third law
    • States that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
