Cards (2)

  • -Leach & Cooper (1967) suggest that the Nuclear family has become so isolated and 'inward looking' that it is actually a very destructive institution which suppresses individuality and teaches blind obedience. They say: 'Far from being the basis of a good society, the family, with its narrow privacy and tawdry secrets is the source of all our discontents'.
  • -Leach interviewed children whose parents had split or divorced in 1967 and stated that the problem lies with the nuclear family: it’s too isolated and lacks the support of the extended family.
