• Meiosis

  • Specialized cell division
  • Only occurs in certain cells in the body
  • Produces gametes
• Haploid: single set of chromosomes present in the cell

  • In humans: only gametes (egg and sperm) are haploid
• Diploid: two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent
• • Meiosis Consists of 2 cell divisions

  1. Meiosis I
  2. Meiosis II

  • Each division is followed by cytokinesis
  • Results in the formation of 4 haploid daughter cells
  • Haploid: having a single set of unpaired chromosomes
• 1. Meiosis I (M1): replication of chromosomes
  2. Meiosis II (M2): No replication of chromosomes
