  • The government encouraged smokers to quit by banning the advertisement of tobacco, banning cigarette vending machines, increasing the tax on tobacco, increasing the price of cigarettes and displaying warning images on the packets.
  • To prevent people from smoking it became illegal to sell cigarettes to children, advertisements were banned, age restriction from 16 to 18 and they were banned from being displayed.
  • To protect non smokers, it was illegal to smoke in cars with children and smoking was banned in pubs, workplaces, cafes and restaurants.
