  • Malnutrition can be from inadequate nutrient intake or to intake an adequate amount with poor nutritive value.
  • Parenteral: a delivery route for fluid for (hydration, nutrition, or meds) that includes subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous administration. (intravenous is most common.)
  • Cachexia is often caught by people with cancer and struggle with malnutrition.
  • Total parenteral nutrition: intravenously giving a special solution that meets the total nutritional needs of the individual. 
  • Enteral: relating to the small intestine.
  • Body mass index: a measurement obtained by dividing the individual's weight in pounds by his or her height in inches
