• add solvent to beaker. draw pencil line on chromatography paper. Add ink dot. Place paper in the beaker till touching solvent. Wait till solvent travels up paper. Measure how far it moved from the line. Measure how far the ink moved from the line. Calculate Rf value = ink movement / solvent movement

  
• How do you determine the reactivity series?

  By adding the metal to water/acid and seeing which one reacts the most vigorousl.
• Making dry salt crystals :

  Add acid to beaker. Add excess metal until no longer reacting. stir. Filter off the solid. Evaporate water from solution in evaporating dish and leave to cool/ continue evaporating. Pat crystals dry.
