    1. sampling and grinding the wheat (laboratory checks so wheat is to the right standard)

    (using large sieves, suction machines, spinners, scourers and metal detectors)
  • 3) conditioning the wheat
    (the cleaned wheat is washed in water and spun dry)
  • 4) gristing the wheat
    (the cleaned and conditioned wheat is blended with other types of wheat of different grades and moistures
  • 5) grinding the wheat
    (wheat moves between rollers known as break rolls and this turns the wheat into flour)
  • 6) processing the flour
    (bran and wheatgerm are added to make brown or wholemeal flour)
  • 7) flour is treated with improvers and fortified
    (raising agents are also added to make self raising flour)
