  • Reconciliation- refers to the restoration of our relationship with God and the Church after confessing our sins and receiving absolution in the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Confession- refers to the act of confessing one's sins to a priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Penance - is the action or prayer assigned by the priest as part of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • Sin - is an offense against God's law and a rejection of His love.
  • Confession - Confession is the act of honestly and openly confessing one's sins to a priest
  • Personal Dimension - Sin has a personal dimension because it is an individual choice and action that goes against God's law and love. It involves a deliberate turning away from God and His commandments
  • Social Dimension - Sin also has a social dimension because it affects not only the sinner but also others in the community
  • Spiritual Dimension - Sin has a spiritual dimension because it damages the soul and weakens the person's relationship with God.
  • Examination of Conscience - Before approaching the sacrament, the penitent examines their conscience, reflecting on their thoughts, words, and actions in order to recognize their sins and areas in need of repentance.
  • Contrition - The penitent expresses sincere sorrow for their sins, known as contrition. This involves a genuine regret for having offended God's love and a firm resolution to avoid sin in the future.
  • Confession - The penitent confesses their sins to a priest
  • Absolution - The priest, acting in the person of Christ, extends God's forgiveness and absolves the penitent of their sins.
  • Penance -The priest assigns a penance, which is a prayer or action to be performed by the penitent
  • Act of Thanksgiving: After receiving absolution, the penitent expresses gratitude to God for His mercy and forgiveness
  • Perfect contrition - Is when we are sorry for our sins out of love for God and a deep desire to be reconciled with Him.
  • Imperfect contrition - Known as attrition or imperfect sorrow, is when we are sorry for our sins out of fear of punishment or the consequences of our actions
  • ACT OF CONTRITION
    O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because I offend You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

  • Care for creation - the church teaches that we habe a responsibility to care for creation
  • Social issues - poverty, immigration, labor rights
  • Work as a divine calling - work is seen as a calling from God, It is not just the means to earn a living but a way to participate in Gods creative and redemptive work
