Inherited Disorders

• Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder of the cell membrane causing the body to produce a thick mucus in the air passages and pancreas
• Polydactyl is a genetic disorder where an individual has extra fingers or toes. its not life threatening.
• Against Embryonic Screening:

  1. Implies people with genetic problems are 'undesirable', this could increase prejudice.
  2. screening is expensive
  3. may just do it just to choose the most 'preferred' characteristics
• For embryonic screening:

  1. It would stop people suffering
  2. treating disorders are expensive
  3. laws to stop it going too far , parents can't choose the sex of their baby
