Selective Breeding

• selective breeding is when humans breed animals to produce offspring with desired characteristics
• selective breeding is used to:

  • make animals produce more milk or meat
  • crops with disease resistance
  • dogs with a gentle temperament
  • Decorative plants with big flowers
• • The disadvantages of selective breeding is the reduction in the gene pool because of inbreeding
  • inbreeding can cause health problems as they can get harmful genetic defects
  • the population may be in danger as there's not a lot of variation when a new disease hits
