  • Who is Amador T. Daguio? He is a Filipino writer and poet during the pre-war Philippines. He published two books in his lifetime, and three more posthumously. In 1932, he graduated from UP as one of the top ten honor graduates. He received the Republic Cultural Heritage Award in 1973, posthumously.
  • When did the Post-War Period start and end?
    The Post-War Period spanned from 1946-1970.
  • On July 4, 1946, the United States granted the Philippines its
    political independence. Yet many features of colonialism
    remained.
  • The most significant achievement of this period was the
    recognition afforded to Filipino writers abroad.
  • The Carlos Palanca Sr. Memorial Awards for Literature started
    the most prestigious annual literary contest sponsored by a
    liquor manufacturer, a magnate, and patron of the arts.

  • Francisco Sionil Jose, started
    his Rosales saga with The Pretenders, an
    indictment against the modern illustrados and
    social injustice.
  • Stevan Javellana published his novel Without
    Seeing the Dawn, a war novel comparable to
    Rizal’s masterpieces. He also fought as a guerilla during the
    Japanese Occupation of the Philippines.
  • Travel essays became popular with Cristina
    Pantoja-Hidalgo leading the pack.
    She is one of the pioneering writers of creative
    non-fiction.
