• lower water potential = higher salt
• too much water- higher water potential in blood than in cells, increases urine volume, cells may burst
• too little water - lower water potential in blood than in cells, decreases urine volume, cells may shrink
• water moves from high to low water potential by osmosis
• osmosis- the movement of water molecules from high water concentration to low water concentration
