• During the '20s in the US, mass production was developed in the car industry (with conveyor belts and one person doing the same job all day)
• Many other types of industry in the US copied the car industry
• Mass production was super-efficient and cost effective
• Many companies in GB did not adopt these new methods very quickly, and therefore got left behind
