  • Good
    That which is considered morally right, or beneficial and to our advantage
  • Evil
    That which is considered extremely immoral, wicked, and wrong.
  • Forgiveness
    To grant pardon for a wrongdoing; to give up resentment and the desire to seek revenge against a wrongdoer.

    The ability to make choices (particularly moral choices) voluntarily and independently. The belief that nothing is pre-determined

    Fairness; where everyone has equal provisions and equality of opportunity and receives what they are due.

    Principles and standards that determine which actions are right or wrong
  • Pacifism
    The belief that war and violence are unjustifiable
  • Conscience
    A person's moral sense of right and wrong. Religious people believe that the conscience is their inner guidance from God.
  • Suffering
    Pain or distress caused by injury, illness, or loss. Suffering can be physical, emotional, psychological, or spiritual.

  • Just Cause
    Those attacked must deserve it, there must be a moral reason for the war (such as defending a nation under attack)
  • Proper Authority
    The state, the government, the monarch, etc. must start and control the war
  • Proper Motive
    To establish good by the victory over the opposition and to re-establish peace and harmony
  • Proportionality
    The arms used must be in proportion to what needs to be achieved, a minimum amount of force should be used
  • Protection for civilians

    The military should avoid injuring the innocent
  • Promoting good over evil
    A war can be fought if it is believed that a greater evil would exist if the war were not fought
  • Last Resort
    The war must be a last resort
