  • Inquiry and Research are two terms that are almost the same in meaning, both involving investigative work in which you seek information about something by searching or examining the object of your search.
  • Inquiry is to look for information by asking various questions about the thing you are curious about while Research is to discover truths by investigating on your chosen topic scientifically, meaning, by going through a systematic way of doing things wherein you are to begin from the simplest to the most complex modes or patterns of thinking.
  • Learning is your way of obtaining knowledge about your surroundings, which takes place in many ways, and one of these is inquiry, which many people in the field of education consider effective.
  • Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind such as inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, and images used in commerce.
  • Plagiarism is the unauthorized use of original ideas and works, which constitutes a violation of intellectual property rights.
  • In the Philippines, intellectual property is protected by Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
  • Using these materials without recognizing the author constitutes copyright infringement, which has corresponding consequences such as years of imprisonment or fine.
  • The Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines is the basis of ownership of any published article or materials in the form of books, magazines, and the like as well as those that are in electronic form.
  • Inquiry is a learning process that motivates you to obtain knowledge or information about people, things, places, or events by investigating or asking questions about something you are inquisitive about.
  • Inquiry requires you to collect data, meaning, facts, and information about the object of your inquiry, and examine such data carefully.
  • In your analysis, you execute varied thinking strategies that range from lower-order to higher-order thinking skills such as inferential, critical, integrative, and creative thinking.
  • Inquiry is an active learning process that puts you in a situation where you need to probe, investigate, or ask questions to find answers or solutions to what you are worried or doubtful about.
  • Inquiry and research both start from what you are ignorant about and make you learn something by means of a problem-solving technique.
  • In the Philippines, all IACUC are registered in the Bureau of Animal Industry of the Department of Agriculture.
  • The purpose of this act is to protect and promote the welfare of all animals in the Philippines.
  • As researchers conduct more investigations, they do not only verify theories or discover new ideas and technologies, but also gain relevant experiences that enhance and deepen their knowledge and skills in the area of their investigation.
  • Research includes more complex acts of investigation than inquiry because the former follows a scientific procedure of discovering truths or meanings about things in this world.
  • Once new ideas or innovations are proven true, they are then utilized and translated to something useful to humankind; and fulfill the ultimate purpose of research: to alleviate people’s quality of life.
  • Research puts you in a context where a problem exists.
  • Ethics is the study of right and wrong; responsibility; and, in the context of this subject, appropriate behavior toward research participants.
  • The aims of research include improving the quality of life, verification of existing knowledge, acquisition of new knowledge, application of new knowledge, and advancement of the researcher’s expertise.
  • Research is a scientific, experimental, or inductive manner of thinking.
  • The principles on animal use in research are based on the Philippine Republic Act No. 8485, otherwise known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
  • In research, you have to collect facts or information, study such data, and come up with a solution to the problem based on the results of your analysis.
  • Research also brings forth new ideas regarding a theory or create a totally new theory.
  • Or, do the opposite of inductive thinking which is deductive thinking that lets you start from forming generalizations to examining details about the subject matter.
  • To enforce the law and facilitate the regulations of animal welfare, an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is encouraged to be formed by research institutions to oversee the process done on research involving animals.
  • In conducting research, some ethical issues must be considered such as animal rights and welfare, human rights and scientific misconduct.
  • Each stage of the research process is not an individual task because the knowledge you obtain through each stage comes not only from yourself but other people as well.
  • Research is aimed at verifying or proving the veracity of existing theories or knowledge.
  • Both inquiry and research encourage you to formulate questions to direct you to the exact information you want to discover about the object of your curiosity.
  • To be a researcher is to be a scientist, who must think logically or systematically; that is, your research activities must follow a certain order, like doing inductive thinking that makes you ponder on specific ideas first, then move to more complex concepts like conclusions or generalizations.
  • Before any animal study can commence, the researchers must submit their proposals to the IACUC for review and evaluation.
  • Central to research is your way of discovering new knowledge, applying knowledge in various ways as well as seeing relationships of ideas, events, and situations.
  • Cognitively driven terms like empirical, logical, cyclical, analytical, critical, methodical, and replicable are the right descriptive words to characterize research.
  • The meaning of research is more complicated than inquiry because it does not center mainly on raising questions about the topic, but also on carrying out a particular order of research stages.
  • Research involves varied thinking acts that range from lower-order to higher-order thinking strategies reflected by these research activities: identifying the topic or problem, gathering data, making theories, formulating hypotheses, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.
  • Research is similar to inquiry, in that, both involve investigation of something through questioning.
  • Inquiry is a problem-solving technique that begins with whatever experience or background knowledge you have, proceeds like scientists with your inquiry by imagining, speculating, interpreting, criticizing, and creating something out of what you discovered.
  • Research is a process requiring you to work logically or systematically and collaboratively with others.
