  • Procedures Emotional Tests To tests Alberts emotional responses to certain objects he was confronted suddenly with a white rat rabbit monkey cotton wool and burning newspapers in each instance it was the first time albert had seen these objects. Albert wad then tested with a loud sound made by striking a hammer upon a suspended steel bar. One experimenter got Alberts attention while the other used the hammer to strike a bar behind Alberts head
  • Procedures 1 establishing a conditioned emotional response Albert was 11 months and 3 days old when they bought him to the lab again. A white rat was presented to him and Albert started to reach for it. At that moment a bar was struck behind him
  • Procedures 2 Testing the conditioned emotional response A week later Albert was returned for more testing at 11 months and 10 days. He was shown the ratwith no sound to see if the previous experience affected his behaviour with the rat . After this Albert was exposed five times to the joint stimulation he was shown the rat and the loud noises were made behind his ear at the same time
  • Procedures 3 Generalisation
    At 11 months and 15 days Albert returned for further testing . The research question at the time was whether the learned link between rat and noise would be generalised to other objects .

  • Procedures 4 Changing the environment
    At 11 months and 20 days Alberts conditioned response was freshened up by joint stimulation . He was then taken to a new environment a large well lit lecture room with 4 people present he was placed on the table in the centre of the room
  • Procedures 5 effect of time
    At 12 months and 21 days Albert was tested for the last time . He had been to the lab in the interim but no emotional tests had been conducted . Final tests involved a Santa Claus mask fur coat the rat rabbit dog and the blocks
