Cards (8)

  • Sexyal reproduction leads to variation in a population, this increases chance of survival
  • Mitosis is a single division whereas meiosis is a double division
  • During prophasr 1 the chromatids condense but the homologous pairs of chromatids also pair up
  • Once homologous pairs of chromatids pair up, the same gene loci match up and complementary sections of dna are swapped, this is known as crossing over
  • Different from mitosis, homologous pairs of chromatids separate, whilst still connected by the centromere in meiosis anaphase 1
  • The selection of homologous pairs for each pole is random
  • Independent segregation and crossing over produces a random assortment of alleles
  • In meiosis anaphase 2 chromatids separate producing haploid cells
