  • Indian literature brought by the Aryan migrations around 1500 B.C. was called Vedic after the Vedas, a collection of sacred hymns. The 6th century B.C. until about A.D. 1000 was the Classical Period which includes epics, court poems, and dramas written in the elite language Sanskrit known for its formality and richness of expression. Both vedic and classical literature reflect the beliefs of India’s dominant religion, Hinduism and its central concepts as dharma, karma, and reincarnation.
