Cards (22)
the
merciless iced east winds
that knive us
flares
confuse our memory of the
salient
but
nothing
happens
like
twitching
agonies of men amongst its
brambles
war lasts
rain
soaks and
clouds
sag
stormy
dawn
massing
in the
east
her
melancholy army
attacks once more
shivering
ranks of
grey
pale
flakes with
fingering
stealth come
feeling
for our faces
less
deadly than the air that
shudders black
with
snow
back on
forgotten dreams
and
stare snow dazed
glimpsing
the
sunk
fires glozed. with crusted
dark
-
red
jewels
for love of
god
seems
dying
for
gods
invincible spring our
love
is made
afraid
this
frost
will fasten on this
mud
and
us
all their eyes are
ice
pause over half
known faces
the
sadness
of war
power
of
nature
remains
and
exposure
shows the different types of
suffering
soldiers face
exposure
and charge of the
light brigade
shows
suffering
also
our brains
ache
so we drowse sun
dozed littered
with
blossoms
trickling where the
blackbird fusses
