Elizabeth Stanko carried out an audit of calls to police over one 24 hour period in 2000 and found that its mostly women who call the police about domestic violence of an average of one call per minute. She also found that more people visit a refuge to escape domestic violence than those who call the police. This supports radical feminist ideas that men use their power over women in the family and supports Ansley’s claims that men take their frustrations out on women.
