  • peritoneum is a membrane lining of your abdomen
  • you put dialysis fluid in a permeable sac in your peritoneum
  • the fluid has the same water potential as the blood / cells but doesn't contain any salts or urea
  • urea and salts will diffuse out into the dialysis fluid
  • its a daily treatment and the fluid has to be changed daily as well
  • Don’t need a professional supervising
  • Can walk around and continue with your life while it’s happening
  • A tube needs to be implanted into you so there’s a risk of infection
