desensitisation

Cards (4)

  • Normally when witnessed violent actions we experienced physiological arousal associated with the sympathetic nervous system such as increased heart rate and higher blood pressure
  • But when children in particular repeatedly view aggression on TV or by playing video games→ become habituated to the effects of aggression and the physiological arousal caused by it
  • A stimulus that was aversive before ,after repeated reviewing → less of an impact →less physiological arousal than before and less anxiety → feel more comfortable with aggression
  • desensitisation also has a psychological impact.
repeated exposure to violent media → belief that using aggression resolve conflicts is social acceptable →more aggression
