• Mammary Glands - present in both sexes, but function only in females; produces milk to nourish a newborn
• Areola - central pigmented area around the nipple
• Nipple - protruding central area of areola
• Lobes - internal structures that radiate around nipple
• Lobules - located within each lobe and contains clusters of alveolar glands
• Alveolar glands - produces milk during lactation
• Lactiferous ducts - connects alveolar glands to nipple
• Lactiferous sinus - dilated portion where milk accumulates
• Breast cancer - second most common cancer worldwide, affecting about 1 in 20 women
• Mammography - an x-ray examination that detects breast cancers too small to feel
