Transverse Waves

• Transverse waves are when matter moves in an up-and-down pattern
• Transverse waves are perpendicular (at a right angle) to the direction the wave is moving
• Transverse waves carry both mechanical and radiant energy

  • Heat, light, water waves
• Transverse waves do not always need a medium to transfer energy
• Electromagnetic energy (light) does not need a medium and can travel through space/a vacuum
• Label the transverse wave!
