  • What is an Inclusive design?
    Inclusive design is an approach to designing that is user-centred. It should put the user at the heart of the designing process with an aim of ensuring the products are accessible to everyone
  • How do we ensure inclusivity is at the forefront of the design process, considerations should include:
    • colour - the choice of colours shouldn’t offend cultures or prevent the product from being used by people with colour blindness
    • signage - the text and symbols used should be universal and have no language barriers
    • function - the product should be easy for the user to use, working as it was designed to
    • material choice - the materials used should not offend people or cultures, eg avoiding using animal products where other options might be available
    • user interface - the parts the user will interact with should be clear and easy to use, eg colour, size and layout of text
  • What is anthropometrics
    Anthropometrics is the practice of taking measurements of the human body and provides categorised data that can be used by designers.
  • What is ergonomic?
    Ergonomics can incorporate the use of anthropometric data when designing products to improve the user experience
    • Ergonomics is a consideration that leads to a product being designed in a way to make it easy to use. Size, weight, shape, position of buttons and controls are all aspects that contribute to it being ergonomically designed. 
  • How do anthropometrics data work?
    • the 5th percentile are the 5 per cent of people who are smaller in size
    • the 50th percentile are people of average size
    • the 95th percentile are 5 per cent of people who are larger in size
  • What is aesthetic?
    Aesthetics refers to the way a product looks and feels
  • As well as aesthetics, factors that can influence a user’s opinion of a product include:
    • colour
    • sound
    • smell
    • taste
    • form
    • texture
    • scale
  • What is the use of COLOUR?
    it is a visual cue that can have different meanings and associations for different cultures, although some of these meanings are universal
  • Why do designers learn colour theory?
    colour theory when selecting colours for a product, using colours that work well together and evoke the right emotional response.
