Adaptations in leaves

• Adaptations: Thin leaves

  • To reduce the distance gases have to diffuse in and out of the leaf
• Adaptations: Large surface area due to large air spaces in the spongy mesophyll

  • So gases can be exchanged with the atmosphere in the mesophyll layer of the leaf easier, maximising the rate of photosynthesis
