  • Normative social Influence is when the individual acts to fit in with others in a group to avoid being seen as the outsider - the individual acts to fit in- even if they do not personally agree with their actions or opinions.
  • Informational social influence is when the individual chooses to conform due to the belief that the others in the group know better than them- or are better informed on the task.
  • What are the three types of conformity?
    • Compliance
    • Identification
    • Internalisation
  • What is Compliance?

    When an individual conforms to the actions of the group or laws despite not particularly wanting to. This is a change in public, not private behaviour- the most shallow of the types of conformity.
  • What is identification?

    When an individual acts as they think that they should in a certain situation, environment or role.
  • What is Internalisation?

    when an individual conforms to a behaviour due to the belief that the action is correct in itself. This is the deepest type of conformity.
