Normative social Influence is when the individual acts to fit in with others in a group to avoid being seen as the outsider - the individual acts to fit in-even if they do not personally agree with their actions or opinions.
Informational social influence is when the individual chooses to conform due to the belief that the others in the group know better than them- or are better informed on the task.
What are the three types of conformity?
Compliance
Identification
Internalisation
What is Compliance?
When an individual conforms to the actions of the group or laws despite not particularly wanting to. This is a change in public, not private behaviour- the most shallow of the types of conformity.
What is identification?
When an individual acts as they think that they should in a certain situation, environment or role.
What is Internalisation?
when an individual conforms to a behaviour due to the belief that the action is correct in itself. This is the deepest type of conformity.
