  • Anticipated: forecast by weather reports
    on-board radar detects certain clouds
    reports of turbulence from other aircrafts
  • Unanticipated: no warning
    could be due to irregular atmosphere conditions (clear air turbulence)
  • Procedure:
    1. stop service
    2. check passenger seat belts
    3. secure loose items
    4. stow carts
    5. stow hot liquids
    6. pass cabin secure checks to FSM on inter phone
  • Light turbulence:
    liquids shaking but not splashing
    carts can be manoeuvred with little difficulty
    slight strain on seat belt
    FSM makes PA
  • Moderate turbulence:
    liquids splashing out of cups
    carts difficult to manoeuvre
    difficult to walk or stand
    definite strain on seatbelt
    discontinue service
    check seatbelts on way to crew seat
    Flight crew makes PA
  • Severe turbulence:
    items falling
    walking impossible
    violently forced against seat belt

    service discontinued
    Take nearest seat
    flight crew make PA
