Bursitis management

• Bursitis - Mechanism:

  • Rapid increase in loading or compression
  • Minimal increase but degenerative joint changes
• Bursitis - Diagnosis:

  • Palpation of swelling
  • Exclusion of other causes
  • Ultrasound to confirm uncertain
• Bursitis - Management:

  • Rest and NSAIDs if painful
  • Optimise strength and biomechanics Management
  • Aspiration and/or steroid injection if persistent and disabling
