Cell organisation and structure

Cards (7)

  • The nucleus contains genetic information(DNA) in the form of chromosomes and also controls cell activites like cell growth, repair of cell. It is also essential for cell division.
  • Ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis.
  • Mitochondria performs aerobic respiration, a process that breaks down glucose in the presence of oxygen to release energy for the cell to function.
  • Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll which absorbs light energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy used by plants and produce glucose during photosynthesis.
  • Rough Endoplasmic reticulum (RER): transports proteins made by the ribosomes to the Golgi Body for secretion out of the cell.
  • Golgi apparatus: Modifies and packages proteins and lipids produced by the ER for secretion out of the cell.
  • Cell surface membrane is partially permeable and controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
