  The Vietcong dressed as local people so the ARVN didn't know who might attack them or who had attacked them. Also, local people fed and sheltered the Vietcong

  They were used to launch ambushes and to hide extra food and weapons.
• The Vietcong were able to use guerilla tactics effectively due to their familiarity with the jungle environment. This meant that they could blend into the landscape and avoid detection by the South Vietnamese army (ARVN). Additionally, the dense vegetation provided cover for the Vietcong to move around unseen and carry out surprise attacks on unsuspecting soldiers.
