Reaction time

    Cards (13)

    • The aim of the reaction time experiment is to investigate the effect of practice/repetition on the reaction time of a ruler drop test.
    • The equipment for the reaction time experiment includes a metre ruler, a chair, and a table.
    • In the first step of the reaction time experiment, the participant sits down on the chair and places their forearm of their weaker/non-dominant hand on the table with their hand hanging over the end of the table.
    • In the second step of the reaction time experiment, the participant's partner holds a ruler with the bottom end in between their fingers so the participant can practice holding the ruler with two fingers.
    • In the third step of the reaction time experiment, the participant's partner holds the ruler and removes their fingers.
    • In the fourth step of the reaction time experiment, the participant's partner holds the ruler in line so that the 0 mark is level with the top of the participant's thumb.
    • In the fifth step of the reaction time experiment, the participant's partner drops the ruler without telling the participant beforehand, and the participant catches the ruler as quickly as they can.
    • The participant notes and records the number level with the top of their thumb after they have caught the ruler in a table such as below.
    • The participant repeats the test at least 5 times.
    • The participant swaps places with their partner and repeats the steps of the reaction time experiment.
    • The reaction times are found by using a conversion table to convert the ruler measurements.
    • Participants in the reaction time experiment may have different experiences in performing a similar task previously, which could affect the results of the experiment.
    • The sample size in the reaction time experiment may be too small to make a valid conclusion.
