What is the history of Spurn Head?
1849: Groynes and Revetments introduced to stabilise the spit after huge breach.
WW2: Royal engineers maintained coastal defences.
1950s: Military left the area and old defences began to decline.
1960s: Spit bought by Yorkshire Naturalist's Trust - unable to afford maintenance leading to further decline.
2013: Tidal surge, defences could not cope and access to roads unavailable.
