Cross bracing is a common feature of buildings which reinforces strength into the design and should help to resist the shaking of earthquakes. It’s formed by 2 diagonal supports, assembling a cross shape.
Shear walls are a structural support which help resist shear forces, like seismic waves.
Shock absorbers are positioned at the bottom of the building and act like a spring to help absorb some of the energy before it destroys the building.
A mass damper can mitigate the effect of an earthquake on an building by helping / stopping the buildings sway. It is a weight that moves in the opposite direction of the building. E.G. Taipei 101, Taiwan.
