' Marriage is my Sunnah. Those who do not follow my practices do not belong to me '
For non-religious people marriage is still significant for a number of reasons. Not only is it a declaration of the couples love, but can provide financial and emotional stability for the family
Some people don't see marriage as significant or necessary, due to the increase in cost. Many choose to cohabit rather than get married as they cannot afford it
Muslims encourage marriage because sex is only permitted in a marriage, and marriage helps to protect the couple from any sins and temptations they might face if they were not married
While many Muslim matches are arranged, forced marriages are against Islamic law
Surah 5:19 about forced marriage being haram:
' You who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will '
Procreation - Having children
Cohabitation - A couple living together while not married
Polygamy is the act of having multiple wives - quote in Islam
' You may marry whichever woman seem good to you, two, three or four. If you fear you cannot be equitable, then marry only one '
