  • Day 1: conception day
  • day 7: embryo implants in mothers uterus
  • 10 days: mothers' menstruation stops
  • 18 days: heart begins to beat
  • 21 days: blood starts to pump through own closed circulatory system, and with its' own blood type
  • 28 days: eyes, ears and respiratory system start to develop
  • 42 days: brain waves recorded, skeleton formed, reflexives present
  • 7 weeks: thumb sucking
  • 8 weeks: all body systems present
  • 9 weeks: squints, swallows, moves tongue, and makes fist
  • 11 weeks: spontaneous breathing movement, have fingernails, all body systems functioning
  • 12 weeks: weight 1 ounce
  • 16 weeks: genital organs clearly differentiated, hands grasp, swimming, kicking, and movement, but not detected by the mother
  • 18 weeks: vocal cords are functional
  • 20 weeks: has hair on head, weighs 1 pound and is 12 inches long
  • 23 weeks: 15% viability if birth premature
  • 24 weeks: 56% premature birth survival rate
  • 25 weeks: 79% premature birth survival rate
