1.4.2 The Appeal of the Nazis

• The Nazi's were nationalists who believed in German irredentism, Social Darwinism and political violence
• Hitler was seen as the archetypal 'strong man' and as a military leader rather than a politician. He presented himself as an ordinary man
• The Nazi vote (%) in 1930 was 18.3 but 37.2 in 1932
• Appeal of Nazi's:

  1. Working Class - promised 'work and bread'
  2. Lower Middle Class - protection from big businesses
  3. Middle Class - protect traditional values
  4. Women - promised economic security
