3.5.1 Photosynthesis

• Oxidation: Gain of oxygen or loss of electron/hydrogen ion
• Reduction: Gain of electron/hydrogen ion or loss of oxygen
• ATP: Adenosine Triphosphate
• Limiting factor: Factor in the shortest supply, if this increases the rate of photosynthesis increases. No longer limiting when it continues to increase but there is no increase in rate.

  • Light intensity - Less light energy absorbed = less ATP and NADPH
  • Co2 conc - not enough to react with RuBp in LIR = less GP and Triose phosphate = less ADP, Pi and NADP recycled into LDR
  • Temperature - Only limits LIR due to the enzyme rubisco
  • Wavelength of light (possibly)
• Measuring rate:

  DV - volume of gas, distance moved by a bubble, change in mass of a plant

  CV -

  • Water bath - control temp
  • NAHCO3 - provides excess CO2
  • Light intensity - same distance
  • Same plant
