  • The Japanese managed to collect information about the militaries of Singapore and Malaysia under the command of Lieutenant-General Yamashita who was decisive and able to draw up excellent tactical and coordination plans.
  • Using Japanese-owned lands in Johor and Singapore, the Japanese managed to observe the construction of the Singapore Naval Base in Sembawang as well as the coastal defences in the North.
  • The Japanese also tapped on the use of propaganda to weaken the defences of Malaya. Thee claim of an "Asia of the Asians" helped gain cooperation of the local people to sympathise with the Japanese cause. Furthermore, the loyalty of the Indian troops to the British army was weakened by the Japanese promise of an India free from the British rule.
  • Japanese intelligence helped Yamashita plan an effective attack plan against the British foes.
